Olivia Ruth Bruner North, a resident of Ashford, died August 9, 2021. She was 79.


Family graveside services were held for Mrs. North, Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Ashford City cemetery. A ceremony honoring Olivia will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Dothan, AL on a date to be determined.


Mrs. North was a 1960 graduate of Ashford High School. She excelled academically and was Salutatorian of her class. Upon graduation from high school, she attended what is now known as Samford University in Birmingham, AL, where she studied History and English. After graduating with honors, she returned to Ashford to marry Charles Osmond North. Mrs. North taught English at Young Junior High School in Dothan, AL before leaving for the birth of her first child, Barton. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother. While her children attended Ashford Academy, she was active in the school’s PTO, Quarterback Club, and worked as needed as a substitute teacher. Mrs. North was active in the Ashford Study Club for many years and was a member of the former First Baptist Church of Ashford.


She is preceded in death by her parents, John Beach Bruner and Alma Ruth Dozier Bruner, sister Harriet Bruner Larson, and her husband, Charles Osmond North.


Survivors include her son, Barton North, Dothan, AL; and daughter, Marsha North (Matt Escher), Birmingham, AL; as well as nephews Steven Larson and Bradley Larson. Barton and Marsha also wish to extend special thanks to Mrs. North’s caregivers, Ann Ashley, Carolyn Davis, Liz McCoy, Wakisha Riddlesprigger and to her caregivers from Home Instead of Dothan.


In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Ashford Rescue Squad (P.O. Box 368, Ashford, AL) or to Friends of the Houston County Library.
