Mrs. Ouida W. Childs of Samson passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012.  She was 89.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Samson First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Blackmon and Dr. Thomas Childs officiating.  Mrs. Childs will lie in state at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friday.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 204 W. Main St., Samson, AL, 36477.


 Mrs. Childs was born in Houston County, AL on February 17, 1923 to the late Richard E. Weekes and Vera Wilson Weekes.   She was a graduate of Geneva High School, Class of 1941.  She was very active in the community and loved to serve others.  She was a master gardener and flower show judge with the Federated Garden Club of America.  She was the first female board member for Covington Electric Co-op.  She was very active with numerous civic organizations including the Samson Garden Club, Crosstrails Regional Library and the Samson Band Boosters.  Mrs. Childs was a very active member of Samson First United Methodist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hoyt Abner Childs, Sr., grandson, Michael Childs and eight siblings.


 She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Hoyt Childs, Jr. (Sandra), Dr. Hayden Childs (Jule), all of Samson and Dr. Rick and Dr. Mitzi Childs of Fairhope; daughter, Patricia Janasky  and husband, Col (Ret) Ed of Samson; sister, Mable “Billie” Wilbanks of Fayetteville, GA; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
