OZARK…Mrs. Patricia (Pat or Patty Ann) Lewis Sand, a resident of Ozark, Alabama and a native of Sheridan, Wyoming passed away at Flowers Hospital on Monday, September 25, 2023, after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was 93.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 2 at the First Ozark United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jason Thrower officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ozark-Dale County Humane Society, 579 Bivins Drive, Ozark, Alabama, 36360 or to the Ozark Animal Control Shelter, 1315 Parker Drive, Ozark, Alabama, 36360.
Mrs. Sand, daughter of the late Eugene S. and Della Pearl Lewis, was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on February 8, 1930. She graduated from Sheridan High School and attended the University of Wyoming. She married the love of her life, Laurel (Sandy) on August 20, 1950. They lived in Portland, Oregon and Mineral Wells, Texas before moving to Ozark in 1962 when her husband took a job as an Instructor Pilot at Fort Rucker. Pat was a homemaker until she went to work in the office at Mixon school to help put her 3 children through The University of Alabama. She became an avid Alabama football fan, never missing a game on TV. She would get so excited watching the games that she would sometimes have to take extra blood pressure medication! Roll Tide! She was a lifetime member of P.E.O., holding several offices, including president of her local chapter.
Her greatest accomplishments were more personal-the love she had for her family. She was a devoted wife of sixty-eight years and a loving Mother, Grandma and Great Grandma. Pat was truly a sweet, genuinely good down to earth person with an unwavering faith in God. She was a beautiful soul with extraordinary kindness and a nurturing nature. She always had a kind word, good advice and was an incredible role model for her children. All who knew her couldn’t help but love her. She will be dearly missed, and her love will always be in our hearts.
Pat lived a wonderful and fulfilling life. Her family would make the long journey “back home” to Wyoming in the summertime to visit relatives and enjoy the Big Horn Mountains, another one of her true loves, making many cherished memories. Later in life, she and Sandy took many trips in their motorhome, sightseeing along the way, but always ended up home in Wyoming. And always with a dog and two or three cats. They loved their animals! Together, Pat and Sandy enjoyed the fellowship and adventures of the Model A Club. Sandy would drive Pat in his restored Model A Ford to their meetings and trips. What fun!
Pat is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years Laurel D. Sand and her brother, Eugene D. Lewis.
Surviving relatives include her son, Gregory D. Sand (Michelle), Mobile, daughters Sheryl S. Bagley (Johnny), Wetumpka and Deborah S. Whittaker (Michael), Ozark; six grandchildren, Eric L. Sand (Anne), Mobile, Kelly S. Carmichael (Ben), Mountain Brook, John Derek Bagley (Beth), Annapolis, Maryland, Ryan C. Bagley (April), Deatsville, Adam M. Whittaker (Joanna), Tucson, Arizona, and Laura W. Kennington (T.J.), Ozark; Six great grandchildren, Joseph and Louise Sand, Baker Carmichael, Mia Whittaker, and Rayland and Coleman Kennington.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Eric Sand, Derek Bagley, Ryan Bagley, Adam Whittaker, Johnny Bagley and Michael Whittaker.
