Mrs. Sarah Elmedia Balkcom Hinson Coker of Slocomb joined the Saints of Heaven on Saturday, July 28, 2012 and is rejoicing with her Lord.  She was 89.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Moody Faulk and Rev. Donald Haddan officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.  Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

he family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. 

Mrs. Coker was born on April 28, 1923 in Geneva County, AL to the late Reverend C.C. and Veda Kirkland Balkcom.  She was a life-long member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  She was a loving Mother and a friend to all and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Robert, Webster, Edison and Pouncy Balkcom.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Loyd Coker of Slocomb; her seven children:  Laraine Clark, Harold Hinson, Debbie Clark (Edward), Sara Jo Braswell (Mike), Maureen Smith, Dennis Hinson and John Ike Hinson; two half-sisters:  Seretha Singletary (Robert), Lois Skiles; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two step sons:  Jeffrey Coker (Lorraine), Stephen Coker (Mary); one step daughter:  Sharon Raybourn (Kevin); four step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
