Mrs. Sarah Nell Barnes Chancy of Geneva passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was 85. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at Hartford City Cemetery with Rev. Michael McKnight of Fairhope United Methodist Church officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions are made to the Epwort United Methodist Church, 3763 Hwy 431 North, Phenix City, AL 36867.


Mrs. Chancy was born in Hartford on February 8, 1927 to the late Homer and Bessie Wilks Barnes. Mrs. Sarah loved to listen to the Gaithers gospel group. Before moving to Geneva to be near her family, she was an active member of the Epwort United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Chancy and one brother, Felix Barnes.


She is survived by one daughter, Genia Vanlandingham (Frank) of Geneva; two grandchildren, Damon and Tessa Vanlandingham of Milton, FL; three great grandchildren, Christopher Vanlandingham, Tyler Vanlandingham of Navarre, FL and Chancy Blu Vanlandingham of Milton, FL; one sister Frances Van Landingham of Geneva; several special nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
