Sue Wamble Wax, a resident of Dothan, died Monday, September 11, 2023 at Flowers Hospital. She was 77.


Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church with Reverend Andy Casto-Waters officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM in the Parlor prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evergreen Presbyterian Food Pantry, 1103 N Pontiac Ave., Dothan, AL 36303 or Dothan Houston County Library, 445 N. Oates St., Dothan, AL 36303.



Sue was born on October 14, 1945, in Wren, Mississippi to Henry Edward and Mary Elizabeth Dollar Wamble.  A 1963 graduate of Amory High School, she then attended Wood Junior College and Mississippi State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education in 1967. Later she received her Masters Degree of Education in English at Troy University Dothan.  She was a passionate and dedicated educator for over 33 years. For most of her career she worked as a 7th grade English teacher at Honeysuckle Middle School, where she also served as the sponsor for the cheerleading program for 10 years. She was active in the Newcomers Club and Beta Sigma Phi.  Additionally, she was president of the Southeast Alabama Dance Company for a term and worked on their production team for 25 years. She was a member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church where she was involved in Youth Fellowship and the Food Pantry.   At the beginning of her freshman year in college, Sue met the love of her life, Buddy Wax. They were married for 56 years and shared many adventures and enjoyed traveling together. She had a passion for the beach, a good party and was a lifelong reader who always had a book in hand.  Sue loved her family and friends dearly, especially her “Inner Circle” girlfriends.  


Sue is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Eddie Wamble.


Survivors include her husband, John D. “Buddy” Wax; children, Stephanie Beckett (Bill), John W. Wax (Daniel Sears), grandchildren, Wells Beckett (Kate), Katie Bunge (John), Henry Beckett and Emily Beckett; great grandchildren, Colbie Beckett, Wells Beckett, Lou Lou Beckett, Jack Bunge, George Bunge and Alice Bunge; three special nieces, Kathy Nerren, Kaye Hannaford and Amy Williamson.


Her family would like to thank Dr. Doug Jackson and his nurses, Tammi and Connie, Barbara Sheppard with FirstLight, the many nurses and medical staff on 4S and 6N at Flowers Hospital, Extendicare and Covenant Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness given to Sue during her illness.
