ARITON…. Mrs. Vannie Peavy Wambles, a resident of Ariton, died early Thursday evening, July 23, 2020 in an Ozark nursing home. She was 102.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Sunday, July 26, 2020 in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Harvey Windham officiating. Burial will follow in Universalist Cemetery in Ariton. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. Sunday at the funeral home. COVID 19 guidelines including wearing of masks will be observed during all scheduled times.


            Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.


            Mrs. Wambles, daughter of the late Charlie Hampton Peavy and Ida Belle Sanders Peavy, was born June 10, 1918 in Bonifay, Florida. At an early age, her family moved to Ariton where she was a member of Ariton United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wambles enjoyed quilting and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Edlo Wambles; sister, Maureen Cox; four brothers, LJ Peavy, AB Peavy, JW Peavy, and Jim Peavy.


            Surviving relatives include her sister, Pauline Conner, Asbury Community near Skipperville; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Peavy and Nancy Whildon, both of Ozark; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Lillie “Sally” Smith, Ozark.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Larry Peavy, Terry Phillips, Lee Phillips, Dakota Phillips, Sage Kennedy, Joshua Jernigan, Izick Jernigan, and Waylon Jernigan.
