Ms. Hazel Nelson Andress of Dothan passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at the age of 92.

Hazel Nelson Andress was born November 9, 1931 in Butler County AL to parents Lelon Benjamin Nelson and Ozello Jones Nelson. She grew up in the Pigeon Creek community and moved to Dothan in 1955 where she lived the remainder of her life.

Hazel was a Master Gardener and had a passion for her annual vegetable garden, her beautiful lawn and flowers. Thanksgiving was a special time with all her delicious food. Even though family members contributed to the meal, but she always prepared the most. Another passion was her beautiful Christmas Village that she put up by Thanksgiving every year so we could all enjoy it.

She resided at Westside Terrace the last few years of her life where she was beloved. She was fondly called the Secretary of Mulberry Lane and given the endearing name of Hazel Grace. Our family has nothing but praise for the staff that cared for and loved her.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her dear brother Bill Nelson, son-in-love Kenneth Arnold, father of her children Harold Andress, nephew Christopher Nelson, nieces Laura Bateman and Stephanie Nelson.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Arnold, Debbie (Ken) Jordan of Opelika, Karen (Wayne) Fennell of Ashford, grandchildren Melissa (Ross) Morris, Michelle (Austin) Singleton, Lindsey (Joe) Gorrin, Jennifer (Mathew) Foster, Amber (John) Hall and Cody (Nicole) Fennell, great-grandchildren  Bailey (Sarah) Morris, Garrett Morris, Ann Singleton, William Singleton, Mills Foster, Hayes Foster, John William Hall, Preston Fennell, Noah Fennell, Luicia Gorrin, Penelope Grace Gorrin and dear sister-in-love Nancy Nelson, nephews Mark (Jan) Nelson, Eric (Anna) Nelson, Matthew Nelson & families.

Graveside services will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 1:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wiregrass Food Bank, 382 Twitchell Rd. Dothan, AL 36303 or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28706 in her memory.
