MSG Johnathan Paul Squires—a proud Husband, Father, and Veteran of the United States Army—passed away Monday, September 12, 2022 at his home in Ozark, Alabama.

Please join us to honor and celebrate MSG Johnathan Paul Squires on Friday, September 23, 2022, 5:00 P.M., at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Enterprise Chapel with Chaplain Timothy Brooks officiating.  The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 P.M. until service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to stopsolidersuicide.org.

John was a loving & dedicated Husband, Father, Papa, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He was so very much loved, impacted a lot of lives, and will be missed tremendously.

He enjoyed spending time with his Family, playing games, watching movies, telling Dad jokes, holiday events, and being at the Farmers Market. He also enjoyed working out, mentoring young Soldiers, playing poker, talking about history and the Military, watching football, collecting coins, BBQ’s, collecting piggy banks, spending time with his pig Skipper, and dancing with his Wife.

Johnathan Paul Squires was born August 20, 1982 in Morton, MS. He enlisted in the Army at the age of nineteen and highly valued this service, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. MSG Squires deployed twice to Afghanistan and twice to Iraqi. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal (6^th Award), National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Senior Aircrew Member Badge, and the Honorable Order of St. Michael Bronze Award. He was also a member of the Audie Murphy Club.

If you would like to write him a letter expressing any last thoughts or words; we will have a place for collecting them and they will be put in with him prior to cremation.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather John Durwood Cox and paternal grandparents, Bryant and Jennie Squires.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jeanne Squires; three children, Teah Wood, Taylor Wood and Braydon Sewalish; mother, Patricia Pearson; father, Thomas Bryant Squires, Sr. and wife Cindy; two brothers, Thomas Bryant Squires, Jr. (T.J.) and Jenny; Christopher James Squires (Cricket) and wife Shellie; one sister, Christina Phillipson and husband Chris; maternal grandmother, Mary Cox; nieces, Tristen, (baby) Taylor, Danielle, Kaleah and Stella; nephews: Wesley, Lane, Rhett and Crimson; two Grandbabies; Anya (String Bean) and Kiura (Pickles).
