Mrs. Nell Montague Patrick, a resident of Montgomery (formerly of Ozark), died early Sunday morning, November 25, 2018 in a Montgomery hospital. She was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, November 29, 2018 in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jamie Hattaway officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Nell Louise Montague Patrick, born July 28, 1931 to Ed and Edna (Galbreath) Montague in Mountain City (Kyle), Hays County, Texas joined her loved ones and reached her final resting place in heaven on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the age of 87 after a brief hospital stay near her home in Montgomery, Alabama.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of her family along with in laws: Gerda Patrick of Brockton, MA., Jack(Sarah) Patrick of Dunedin, FL; and her pride and joy granddaughter, Rachel Glynda Patrick.
Nell is preceded in death by her Grandparents: Carl and Elizabeth (Dodd) Galbreath; John Montague, Sr. and Annie (Gold) Montague; Parents: Ed and Edna (Galbreath) Montague; Brother, C.E. (Carl) Montague; Nephew, Harry E. Montague; her loving husband of 55 years, Lewie Glenn Patrick who passed away on April 16, 2010; and both of her children: Glenda Elizabeth Patrick (Dec. 29, 1955- March 23, 1961) and Charles Scott Patrick (Nov. 12, 1959- Dec. 17, 2009).
A distinguished lady and a true "Southern belle" with an alluring southern accent would best describe Nell Louise. Nell married the perfect southern gentleman, Glenn Patrick, in 1955 in Biloxi, Mississippi before moving to Alabama. She and Glenn so enjoyed their years serving in the National Guard where he had numerous assignments including the State Military Department in Montgomery.
Moving from Texas, her slight southern drawl magnified over the years the longer she lived in Alabama, and the social life of being an officer’s wife was a perfect match for her gifts of hospitality, graciousness, and charm.
Among Nell’s talents were sewing, which came in handy for making beautifully crafted dresses and outfits that were inspired by designs she saw in the stores. She was determined to save money and make her own.
Nell valued her family roots in Texas and loved good Mexican food, which she claimed she could never match in Alabama. She would stock up on local fare while visiting her family in Texas over the summer breaks with Scott, especially tortillas, tamales, and hot sauce. She enjoyed replicating good recipes for others at home.
The value of family, the beauty of her home, and landscape of her yard, along with striking antique clocks that Glenn had restored filled her heart with joy and appreciation for her life. Even in the midst of so much sorrow as she cared for her loved ones and saw many pass on before her, she found hope. Nell will be missed, but our memories of her wit, charm, and southern drawl will ring in our hearts and minds.
