Norma Edna Beadles (Grube) of Enterprise, Alabama was born November 20, 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island and died March 1, 2022 from the blessing of long life.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lt. Col. Robert John Beadles and daughter Maureen Sharon Beadles.  Her survivors include children, Robert Beadles, Jr (Rhonda Crumpler Beadles), Glenn Beadles (Cindy Lyons Beadles), and Jackie Beadles; grandchildren, Morgan Beadles Pendergrass (Sam), Ryan Beadles (Sara), Bradley Tappan (Brandi), and Berry Beadles; great grandchildren, Raiford Beadles, Julian Beadles, Alyssa Tappan, and Westyn Wall.

Over the years Mom worked for Whitaker-Warren Insurance Agency, Garwood Industries, and Medical Center Enterprise.  She was always recognized by her profound Rhode Island accent.  She never lost the depth of a lack of ‘R’s in her vocabulary though she lived in lower Alabama more than 54 years.

Our Mom was an avid seamstress.  The girls always knew if Mom was not at home on a Saturday, she could be found at the local Singer Sewing Shop!  She made many remarkable garments, home décor, and machine embroidery gifts over the decades while sitting in her sewing corner.  Some of her projects through the years included cassocks for St. John’s Catholic Church, window treatments for The Boll Weevil Soap Company, and countless clothing items which were always worn with pride.  One of her greatest accomplishments was the gift of a wedding dress for a young woman in Lexington, South Carolina.  She took Mom into her home for a night after Mom’s car broke down.  This angel would accept no money for what she provided.  Ultimately, an agreement was made for Mom to make her dress.  The gown was spectacular, made with love, and worn with honor and appreciation.

Mom will be remembered when we hear rattling newspapers, pots and pans being banged around in a kitchen, sewing machines at work, and a sing-song “Hello”.  We will certainly miss the game of figuring out who or what she would try to point to with gnarly, darn near right-angled fingertips, her exclamations of “Oh my gawd!” when we would surprise her, and her speed at hemming our pants every time we asked.

We take comfort knowing she is being welcomed by family and friends.  We can only imagine Dad saying “It’s about time, kid”.

Inurnment will take place at Meadowlawn as she accompanies Maureen to their final rest.  The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to your local hospice in her memory.
