CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA. . .Paul Dean Cummings, a resident of Charleston, South Carolina, died Wednesday afternoon, November 15, 2023, in the Ralph Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston. He was 86.

            Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 A.M. (CST) Saturday, November 25, 2023, in the Pilgrim Rest Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, near Abbeville, Alabama, with Reverend George Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

            Mr. Cummings was born and reared near Shorterville, Alabama, son of the late James Edward Cummings and Mabel Money Cummings. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School. At an early age, Mr. Cummings enlisted in the U. S. Navy. During his service with the U. S. Navy, Paul performed three tours of duty in Vietnam on the USS Bonhomme Richard, and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer after thirty years of service. Upon retirement from the Navy, he received a B.S. Degree from Charleston Southern University, and went on to become self-employed as an Income Tax Advisor. He lived in various locations in the U. S. and overseas while serving in the Navy but lived the past thirty years in Charleston. Mr. Cummings was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Woelfle and Mickie Davis, and  four brothers, James Edward “BB” Cummings, Jr., Robert “Bob” Cummings, Bill Cummings and Albert “Pug” Cummings.

            Surviving relatives include two sisters, Betty Cummings, Shorterville, Alabama; and Linda Beckham, Gastonia, NC; numerous nieces and nephews.
