Peggy Bottoms Driggers, 87, of Dothan, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2022. She was born on October 5, 1935, in Mobile, AL, the daughter of James Fletcher Bottoms, Jr., and Merle Chalker Bottoms. A graduate of Dothan High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO, she was also an honor graduate from Auburn University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

Peggy married Dr. Roy Driggers in 1957, after which they lived in New Orleans, LA, Atlanta, GA, and Houston, TX, before returning to Dothan in 1962. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir, directed children’s choirs, taught Sunday School, served on various committees, was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and volunteered with the Community Ministry. She was active in the community as a member of the Dothan Service League, the Soroculae Study Club, and the Houston County Medical Auxiliary, among others. While she was first and foremost a devoted wife, loving mother, homemaker, and trusted friend, she also taught preschool music at the First Presbyterian Kindergarten, and sold designer clothes from her home. She was the consummate hostess and loved cooking for a crowd. She loved Compass Lake and boating; together, she and Roy helped teach numerous children to water ski. Her interest and talent in interior design was evident in her home and her involvement on the church decorating committee.

Peggy was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Roy Driggers; her parents; In-laws, Roy and Jesse Driggers; a brother, James Fletcher Bottoms, III; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Bottoms; and a niece, Sara Creamer. She is survived by two daughters: Dr. Allyson Driggers Gallagher (Pat) of Hamden, CT, and Gayle Driggers of Albany, NY; one son, R. Morris Driggers, Jr. (Dawn) of Auburn, AL; four grandchildren: Taylor Driggers-McDowell (John) of Glasgow, Scotland, Benjamin Driggers of Auburn, AL, Erin Gallagher of San Diego, CA, and Patrick Gallagher of Hamden, CT; one brother, Bobby Bottoms (Brenda) of Dothan, AL; and one nephew, Calvin Bottoms (Heather) of Franklin, TN.

The family wishes to thank Enhabit Hospice; physical therapist Susan Howes; and her team of caregivers, especially Angie Glenn, Sean Saffold, and Brenda Graham.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 22, at 2 pm at First Baptist Church of Dothan, officiated by Dr. Taylor Rutland and Dr. Tripp Martin and directed by Glover Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Community Ministries, the Wiregrass Area Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.
