NEWTON. . .Phillip G. Dickerson, a resident of Newton, died Saturday afternoon, February 20, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. He was 70.

   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 23, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Clayton “Bimbo” Turner, Paula Bond and Brother Jimmy Steege officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed.

   Mr. Dickerson was born and reared in Ashford, son of the late Preston Dickerson, Sr. and Kathleen Cleverly Dickerson. He moved to Newton in 1975 where he was the owner and operator of Phillip’s Auto Recycling & Salvage, Inc.

     Surviving relative include his wife, Cathy Turner Dickerson, two daughters, Jawania Steege (Jimmy), Dothan; and Loria Hawthorne (Blane), Newton; a son, Scott Dickerson (Christa), Newton; four brothers, Preston “Butch” Dickerson, Jr. (Nina), Cowarts; Jerry Dickerson (Debbie), Newville; Jimmy Dickerson (Sharon), Ozark; and David Dickerson, Webb; eight grandchildren, Mark Wuolukka, Brandi Chavis, Dylan Chavis (Jade), Tyler Hawthorne (Candace), Micaela Morris (Matt), Amber Murphy, Kendall Dickerson and Phillip Dickerson (Regan); thirteen great-grandchildren.     

     Serving as active pallbearers will be Bacilio Alvarado, Brandon Alvarado, Tyler Hawthorne, Phillip Dickerson , Mark Wuolukka and David Dickerson.
