HEADLAND. . .Phillip Rayburn Kennedy, a resident of the Blackwood Community, near Headland, died Friday morning, August 21, 2020, at his home. He was 83.


       Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 23, 2020 in the Blackwood Church with Brother Bill Smith and Sammy Popwell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


       Mr. Kennedy was a lifelong resident of the Blackwood Community of Dale County, son of the late Thomas Espy Kennedy and Pera Johnson Kennedy. He was a member of the Blackwood Church. Mr. Kennedy was the retired owner and operator of Kennedy Brothers Paint and Body Shop in Dothan. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Popwell and two brothers, Lowell Kennedy and Creig Kennedy.


       Surviving relatives include his wife, Ella Jo Watson Kennedy; three daughters, Melanie Popwell (Sammy), and Machelle Kennedy, all of Dothan; and Shatisa Pierce (Richard), Tuscaloosa, Al; two sons, Dewayne Kennedy (Carleen) and Bobby Corbin (Regina); two brothers, Dwight Kennedy and Theop Kennedy (Laura), all of the Blackwood Community; eight grandchildren, Blake Popwell (Kristina), Ben Popwell (Shelby Jordan), Jordan Kennedy (Hannah Peters), Cameron Kennedy (Hannah Beidleman), Dustin Jackson, Madison Pierce and Courtney and Mary; nine great-grandchildren.
