COLUMBIA. . .Phillip Wayne Smothers, a resident of Henry County, between Headland and Columbia, died early Saturday evening, March 6, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. He was 53.

   A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2021, in the Balkum Baptist Church. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

   Phillip Smothers was born in Ft. Gaines, Georgia and was reared in the Tumbleton Community and Headland. He was a member of the Balkum Baptist Church. Phillip was employed by Dick Whatley Sign Services in Headland as Foreman. Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Wayne Smothers.

   Surviving relatives include two daughters, Amber Smothers, Vandegrift (Justin), Haleburg; and Ashley Smothers (David Davis), Slocomb; two sons, Norman Newsome (Ellana), Newton; and Corey Paxton (Mel), Skipperville; his mother, Brenda Shelley McCullough, Headland; two brothers, David Smothers, Columbia; and Jeff Smothers, Headland; his step-mother, Marie Smothers; and step-brothers, Russell Bailey and Kenneth Bailey (Angela); eight grandchildren, Bailey, Joseph, Brailynn, Caiden, Dawson, Carson, Everly and Jasper.
