Pierce Baker, Jr. of Enterprise passed away at his home Saturday, March 25, 2023. He was 96.

Private graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Edd Brashier officiating.  Burial will follow with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  A memorial service will follow this summer.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serve the Global Church through their website www.servetheglobalchurch.org or telephone (407)808-3428.

Pierce was born and raised in Chicago.  He dropped out of high school to join the Navy because of WW2, but after boot camp, the doctors sent this 16-year old home to finish high school.  He was drafted by the Army at age 23 and helped open Camp Rucker as an MP.  He met his future bride at the PX.

Pierce and Peggy lived in suburban Chicago from 1952 until 1979 before coming to Enterprise.  Upon moving to Enterprise, he moved his business, Hinges, Inc., to Enterprise and operated it until his retirement.  He served for many years teaching boys’ Sunday School and Awana, and also served as deacon and usher in the churches they attended.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Baker.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Peggy Baker, Enterprise, AL; 2 daughters, Kathy Cosgriff, Castro Valley, CA, Janet Smith (Bruce), Orlando, FL; 3 granddaughters, Abby Brown (Andrew), Carlisle, PA, Lindsey Kerns (Heath), Destin, FL, Jennifer Kent (Sean), San Mateo, CA; great-grandsons, Holden Baker Brown, Ezekiel Pierce Kerns, Davis Brown, Jude Brown; sister, Dolores Benck; 2 sisters-in-law, Anna Harris, Enterprise, AL, Margaret Moskau, Metairie, LA.
