COWARTS. . .Rachel Smith Davis, a resident of Cowarts, entered into Heaven’s Gate,      Saturday afternoon, December 9, 2023. She was 77.

            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 11, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Larry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.

            Ms. Davis was born in Columbus, Georgia and was raised in Kalkaska, Michigan. She lived in Cowarts most of her adult lifetime. Ms. Davis was a member of Victory Family Church, Dothan, and was a former member of New Freedom Church in Webb, and also volunteered with the Wiregrass Food Bank. She was retired from the Department of Human Resources in Houston County as a Unit Secretary. Ms. Davis was preceded in death by her father, George Sherman Badder, her mother, Estelle Culpepper Badder, her husband, William Royce Davis, and a daughter, Donna Davis MacAloney.

            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Tina Davis Joyner (Dewayne), Headland; a former son-in-law, Daniel MacAloney, Abbeville; grandchildren, Daniel MacAloney, Jr. (Jessica), Elijah MacAloney (Stacy), Patricia Hale (Thomas), Isaac MacAloney, Farha Tharpe (Tim), Marcas Lisenby, Brandon Joyner (Abbi), and James Lisenby (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Southerlynn Joyner, Paityn Waters, Leighanna Batson, William Tharpe, Logan Joyner, Hadleigh Joyner and Daniel Tharpe; a niece, Haley Winburn (Will).

            Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons and Chris Davis.
