Ranny Edsel Cauthen, born December 18, 1932, in Crenshaw County, AL, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on October 9, 2023, after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Ranny proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years, completing his tour on the USS Batfish diesel submarine in Key West, FL. After leaving the Navy, he attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute, which is now known as Auburn University, receiving a degree in Industrial Management in 1960. After graduation, he accepted a position in finance with a company in Dothan AL. He married Martha Dickey in 1962 and they shared 61 years together. He completed his working career as a real estate appraiser in Dothan. He and Martha were active members of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan. His hobbies were golf, bridge, Braves baseball, and Auburn football.

He is predeceased by his parents, Lorenzo Dow Cauthen (“L.D.”) and Mary Lou Bodiford Cauthen, of Honoraville, AL; 2 brothers, Monroe Dowell Cauthen (Jo Cauthen) and Lawrence “Larry” Ernest Cauthen (Betty Cauthen).

He is survived by his Wife, Martha Dickey Cauthen of Dothan, two daughters, Karla Cauthen Miller (Phillip) of Nashville, TN, and Jill Cauthen Pylant (Carl) of Dothan, AL, two grandsons, Ethan Aubrey Pylant (Nashville) and Peyton Reid Pylant (Auburn) and seven nieces and nephews.

The family would especially like to thank Jesslyn and Taylor of Enhabit Hospice for their compassionate care of Ranny.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Glover Funeral Home in Dothan, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., and the service at 1:00 p.m., with Chaplain Darryl Bates and Reverend Elizabeth Hinton officiating. Burial with Navy Honors will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing.
