Ray, age 90 passed away peacefully and into the arms of Jesus at his home on October 29, 2023, while surrounded by his children. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend to many.

Ray was born in Ashford, Alabama, on October 14, 1933, to Ernest and Levettie Taylor. He was a 1953 graduate of Cottonwood High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 68 years, Annie Will Sellers Taylor; brothers, Robert Taylor, and John D. Taylor; sister, Evelyn Granger, and her husband Charles Granger.

He is survived by his children: Danny Taylor (Jan), Randy Taylor (Leigh), and Joy Taylor Windham (Vann).
Grandchildren include: Kelly Hart (Chad), Carmen Butler (Nathan), Brent Taylor (Amanda), Kendra Taylor Hatcher, Taylor Windham, Gavin Taylor (Mallory), Connor Windham, and Nicolett Butler.

Great-grandchildren include: Madelyn Taylor (Anthony Sasser), Caleb Butler, Hank Johnson, Marlie Johnson, Reed Taylor, and Bohdi Hart; one great-great-grandchild, Brinley Kate Sasser; Special nieces and nephews. Special aunt, Estelle Smith.

He started his career with Thomley’s and Builders Homes and then became self-employed as a plumbing and electrical contractor for approximately 30 years. He ended his career with the Houston County Board of Education as the maintenance supervisor. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed helping on the farm and tending his own garden. He so enjoyed the bounty of a good garden and making sure his family was well-fed. One of his favorite past times was on the lake fishing and one of his favorite sayings was "Let’s go to Seminole". Countless hours were spent fishing and talking about big catches and cooking those catches with special cousins Rickey Moore and Jimmy Maddox. He so enjoyed strategizing games of "chicken foot" and he loved the grandchildren being there … that always made him smile. Of course, in the fall it was “Roll Tide”, and he did so enjoy the fun that came with teasing the ones that cheered for the other team. We’ll always remember you Dad because there will never be another one to replace you in our hearts and the love we will always have for you.

Visitation, funeral, and burial will be at Union Hill Baptist Church, Cottonwood, Alabama. Pastor Cory Solomon will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1 from 12:30-1:45 with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers include: Chad Hart, Brent Taylor, Taylor Windham, Gavin Taylor, Connor Windham, and Reed Taylor.

Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Dayspring Hospice: Olivia Starling, Ashley Dickens, Sonia Hughes, and long-time physician Dr. Carlos Clark.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 7335 South County Road 33, Cottonwood, AL 36320.
