SHORTERVILLE. . .Rayford Lee Starling, a resident of Shorterville, died Tuesday afternoon, September 15, 2020, in Noland Hospital Dothan. He was 83.

     Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, September 18, 2020, in the Old Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Matthew Quincey and Reverend Ron Hendrickson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Friday in the sanctuary of the church. Social distancing and masks will be observed. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Old Zion Baptist Church, c/o John R. Starling, 480 County Road 36, Shorterville, AL 36373.

     Mr. Starling was a lifelong resident of Henry County, son of the late Lucious Felix Starling and Thelma Mayhand Starling. He was a member of the Old Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Starling was retired from Carter Pulpwood Company as a Diesel Mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Mayo Starling, a son-in-law, Johnny Sauls, three sisters, Christine Applegate, Dorothy Nell Weems and Virginia McIlwain, and two brothers, Lowell Starling and Frank Starling.

     Surviving relatives include three daughters, Kathy Gilley (Randy), Angela Sauls and Brenda Sauls (Erwin), all of Shorterville; a sister, Gracie Dutton, Smiths, AL; two brothers, Perry Starling (Paula), Phenix City; and James Starling (Abby), Pine Mountain, GA; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Starling; brothers-in-law, Frank Applegate and Lamar McIlwain; five grandchildren, Brooke Hart, Matthew Bryan (Maria Rivera), John Christopher Sauls and Dustin Gilley (Halie); seven great-grandchildren, Zoe, David, Rigby, William, Luna, Alice and Marilyn.
