Raymond Earl Johnson, Sr. of Samson, AL passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022. He was 68 years old.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Piney Grove Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Bro. Jack Chancey officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing.

Earl was born in the Piney Grove Community north of Samson, AL on March 18, 1953 to the late Hollis Raymond and Mary Etta (Yvonne) Phillips Johnson. Earl was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and spending time with them. He could make the best sweet tea and cornbread. He also learned how to make homemade biscuits and tomato gravy which became a favorite of his family as well. Earl worked 28 years at Benson Wholesale/Fleming Foods and dearly loved those he worked with. They were forever in his heart and memories. He loved the Lord and his family. He will forever be remembered as the most kind, humble, loving and gentle man, who truly will be missed by all who knew him.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandchild.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Davis Johnson of Samson, AL two sons, Raymond Earl Johnson, Jr. and his wife Kay, who Earl loved as a daughter, and Joseph Dallas Johnson all of Samson, AL; two grandsons, Raymond Earl “Trey “Johnson, III of Samson, AL, and Christian Troy Johnson and his wife Madison, who Papa loved as his granddaughter, of Samson, AL; special young lady chosen as a granddaughter, Blake Davis of Samson, AL, and two great-grandsons, Hunter Dean Johnson and Dawson Caleb Johnson, both of Geneva, AL, one great-grandchild  on the way; one sister, Jonnie Jordan of Samson, AL; one brother, Billy Ray Johnson of Samson, AL; a special cousin who is like a brother, Steve Phillips of Samson, AL; one aunt, Annette Phillips of Hartford, AL; one uncle Robert Chambless of Holley Mill Creek, AL; three brothers-in-law, Jimmy Clyde Davis (Sonya) of Dothan, AL, Faron Ricky Davis of Samson, AL, Lonnie McHenry of Ponce De Leon, FL, many special nieces, nephews and cousins and three special canines, Daisy, Trixie, and Mac.
