Retired Capt. John W. Givens of Dothan passed away Monday, October 29, 2012. He was 59.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, November 1, 2012, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 P.M. Thursday, November 1, 2012, one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund or the Wiregrass Food Bank.


 


Mr. Givens was a dedicated man of Honor. He served the City of Dothan as a police officer and retired as a Captain, he also served our country in the United States Army retiring as a CW-4. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church.


 


He is preceded in death by his father, Byrd Givens.


 


Survivors include his wife, Janice Givens of Dothan; mother, Martha Givens of Henry County; daughters, Dianne Givens of Dothan; Jennifer Givens of Dothan; son, Jonathan Givens and his wife, Brandy of Dothan; sister, Jacquelyn Leddon and her husband, Ron of Headland; brother, Joel Givens of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Elicia and Audrey, Abigail, Shiloh, and Eden, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.


 


The Police Department will serve as Honor Guard.
