It is with great sadness that the family of the Reverend James H. Miller shares the news of his passing. James passed away peacefully on May 22, 2021. He was 89 years old.
Funeral services for Rev. Miller will be held at Colquitt Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 2:00 PM EST with Dr. Johnny Roberts and Rev. Chad Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in New Enterprise Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Thomas “Tom” Gilmore, Mike Moulton, Roy Davis, Ronnie Ingram, Joe Sheffield, and John Gray serving as active pallbearers. Members of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church and members of the 60 and Up Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Colquitt. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM EST at the church.
Born in Donalsonville, GA on June 3, 1931, James lived the majority of his life in the Iron City community where he was active on the City Council, Chaplain of the American Legion Post 157, a Shriner and a Mason. He was retired from Farm Credit Bank. He was inspired to join the Army in 1949, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He served gallantly in the Korean War and chose to re-deploy to Vietnam where he was a member of the tank brigade. He was awarded many honors including a Purple Heart for military distinction on two occasions and a Bronze Star. He served our country proudly for over 23 years.
James was a man of God and was a preacher of the gospel. He preached at many churches in the area until he retired. Even upon retirement, however, he continued to preach when needed or asked.
James was known as a steadfast man who was kind, generous, and intelligent and who inspired others with his faith. He was a wonderful man and can be categorized as a great American who served his country willingly and his God continuously. James had an interest in military relics, coins and old cars. He proudly showed his original 1929 Model A Ford at vintage car shows in the Southeast. He also loved to travel by RV and spent time at the beach with loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Jones Miller; his son, James Miller, Jr; his two brothers L.D. (Martha) and John D.; his granddaughters, Jamie and Jennifer Miller; great-granddaughter Bryanna Hardy; many loving nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Judy Best and a brother-in-law Rick Lowry.
James was preceded in death by his first wife Namiko (mother of his son Jimmy); parents, Ora Calvin and Myrtice Yawn Miller; sisters-in-law Joyce Miller, Linda Miller, Lavena Miller and Mary Henry Lowry and a brother-in-law Jasper Best.
We find comfort in knowing that James has found perfect peace and is home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
