DOTHAN. . .Reverend Larry Wayne Dykes, a resident of Dothan, died early Monday evening, March 4, 2019, in a Dothan hospital. He was 72.

     Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2019, in the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church, near Columbia, with Reverend Bobby Ned Peters and Pastor Jeff Lunsford officiating and a eulogy to be given by his son, Jonathan Dykes. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church “Building Fund”, c/o Wayne Lewis, 2853 Ebenezer Church Road, Columbia, AL 36319 or to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home of Alabama, 86 Academy Drive, Eldridge, Alabama 35554.

     Reverend Dykes was born and reared in Dothan and lived in the Dothan area most of his adult lifetime. He was a 1966 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Emory University where he studied Theology. He was employed by the Southeast Alabama Gas District for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2005. Reverend Dykes served several United Methodist Churches and Free Will Baptist Churches and most recently served as Pastor of the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church where he was a member. Reverend Dykes was also a member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association, F.A.I.T.H  Riders and Bikers For Christ. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Hale Dykes and a daughter, Teresa Dawn Dykes.

     Surviving relatives include his wife, Carol Hickox Dykes; a son, Jonathan Dykes (Tina), Dothan; his mother, Lue Verna Herndon Dykes, Dothan; a sister, Olivia Dykes Brannon, Dothan; three grandchildren, Daniel Dykes, Devan Dykes (Ashton), and Dakota Dykes Phillips (Shannon);  four great-grandchildren, Hadley Dykes, Averi Dykes, Declan Phillips and Ryan Phillips.
