Rev. James David Millwood, Sr. went home to be with his Lord on April 23, 2019 at the VA Medical Center, Dublin, Georgia where he had been lovingly cared for the last 3 years.

Services include a visitation at Townsend Funeral Home, Thursday, April 25, 4:00-6:00 in Dublin, GA. On Saturday, April 27, the family will receive friends in the chapel at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan, AL, from 12:00-2:00. Rev. Ray Jones will officiate the funeral and burial beginning at 2:00. Rev. Millwood’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

J.D. was born on August 13, 1927 in Atlanta, GA to the late Jesse Edward Millwood and Elizabeth Siddons Millwood (Lackey).

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Jean; two daughters, Regina (Mickey)  Schuber of Dublin and Betty Mathis of Marianna, FL; two sons, James D. Jr. (Debbie),  Millwood,  Malone, FL and Jesse E. (Rita) Millwood of Perry, GA; three brothers, John T. Millwood of Concord, GA,  J. Earl Millwood of Stockbridge, GA and Lamar F. Millwood of Euharlee, GA, nine cherished  grandchildren, Derek (Katherine) Schuber, David (Toni) Millwood, Daniel Millwood, Allen (Tammy) Mathis, Judson (Melinda) Mathis , Randall (Crystal) Mathis, Kyle (Jennifer) Mathis, Jessica Parrish (Jonathan Icard), Josh Millwood  and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Janie Mae Burkhardt, Ethel Shirley, and Bobbie Joyce Taylor, three great grandchildren, Gracelyn and Jacob Parrish and Adalee Elizabeth Mathis.

After his service in the U.S. Navy during WW II and Korea he returned to Georgia and to the love of his life, Jean.  Early in their marriage, he committed his life to Christ and diligently studied the Word, often with mentors,  through study courses, and later attending Bible College.  He loved his family intensely, and his Lord most fervently.  He worked bi-vocationally most of his life, as a carpenter/minister, pastoring Baptist churches in N. Florida, Alabama and Georgia and then, following retirement, he and Jean devoted many years to prison ministry.

His life is most characterized by his  love of his Lord and his family, compassion for and willingness to help anyone in need, gratitude, and a general love of life, laughing easily, often in a self-effacing way. He loved, and was loved.  He will be missed.
