SHORTERVILLE. . .Reverend Ray S. Reiley, a resident of Shorterville, Alabama, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday afternoon, February 19, 2024, in Westside Terrace in Dothan. He was 93.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, February 22, 2024, in the First Baptist Church of Abbeville with Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Hollis Ritter officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Thursday in the First Baptist Church Family Life Building. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to Union Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Carol Johns, 800 County Road 28, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to one’s favorite charity.


            Reverend Reiley was born and reared in Libertytown, Maryland, son of the late Carl Stanley Reiley and Annie Elizabeth Smith Reiley. He was a graduate of Walkersville High School in Walkersville, Maryland. At an early age, Reverend Reiley enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during the Korean War. In 1956, he went to work with Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. Reverend Reiley moved to Graceville, Florida in 1964 and attended Baptist Bible Institute where he received a diploma in pastoral training. Reverend Reiley served as Pastor of 21st Street Baptist Chapel, Birmingham, Bethel Baptist Church, Brundidge, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Abbeville, First Baptist Church of Abbeville, Shorterville Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church and Union Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Reiley was a member of  Fellowship Baptist Church and was Pastor Emeritus.


            Reverend Reiley is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Clark Reiley, a sister, Betty Mae Rippeon, and three brothers, Carl F. Reiley, John H. Reiley and Harold E. Reiley.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Ramona Barnes (David), Maylene, Alabama; a son, Mark S. Reiley, Shorterville; grandchildren, Jason Reiley (Tara), Ashleigh Schlemmer (Ben), Michael Barnes (Melanie), Bradley Barnes and Casey Barnes (Katie); nine great-grandchildren.


            Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Armstrong, Andy Johns, Jimmy Mobley, Cade Newton, Cole Newton, Benny Smith, Steve Newton, Keith Barnes, Reed Cleveland, Mike Murphy, Brent Murphy, Lee Fortson, Michael Arnold, Joey Floyd, Robb Cleveland, Jay Hutto, Pee Wee Blankenship, Charles Emmett Berry and Bo King.
