Reverend Willie Charles Duncan, age 78, of Dothan, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021 surrounded by his family.


Born June 12, 1943 in Enterprise, Alabama to the late Joe David Duncan and Annie C. Hutchinson Duncan, Willie graduated from Carver High School in 1961 and later Wallace State Community College with a degree in Law Enforcement. He served his country not only in the United States Army but also the United States Air Force. Willie’s law enforcement career included working in Delaware, Pinkard, Newton, and as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Houston County. He also worked security at DSI and Ft. Rucker Aviation Center. Willie was a member of Parks Chapel AME Church as well as being an AME Minister since 2005. During his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and helping others as a handyman. He was a collector of guns as well as cars, including a 1949 Hudson. Willie will be missed dearly by his family and friends.


In addition to his parents, Willie is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Duncan.


He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Catherine Duncan; his daughter, Latonya Pierce (John); his son, Derrick Duncan; his step-daughters, Mica Robinson, Ayana Turner, Jamilia Robinson; his grandchildren, Brehana Pierce, John Pierce, III, Briana Robinson, Jahal Robinson, Octavious Merriweather, and Braylon Robinson; his great-grandchild, Amilah Robinson; his sister, Sheila Duncan; his nephew, Anthony Duncan; his sisters-in-law, Gloria Brooks (Willie) and Melinda Culpepper; numerous other relatives and friends.


Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Marques Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM, Monday, August 9, 2021 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.


Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Swain, Jr., Brian Brooks, John Culpepper, Jr., and the Sons of Allen.
