Rex Lingo, a resident of Gordon, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018. He was 73.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Register officiating. Burial will follow in Howard Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Howard Grove Free Will Baptist Church.


Mr. Lingo was born on June 14, 1945 and lived the early years of his life in Cottonwood. He was employed with Georgia Pacific for 40 years and at the time of his retirement, he was an industrial mechanic. Mr. Lingo enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing in the Florida River.


Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Annie Douglas Lingo; his sons, Ronald (Michelle) Lingo and Chris (Daphne) Lingo; his daughter, Buffy (Danny) Hughes; his 6 grandchildren, Jacob (Livia) Lingo, Blake Lingo, Jerrod Cook, Ethan McVay, Haley Hughes, and Anna Lingo; his great-grandchild, Lennox Blair Lingo; his brother, Wayne (Ruby) Lingo; his 2 sisters, Sarah (Peewee) Retherford, Robbie (Don) Braswell; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
