RICHARD  EARL  FORBES


 DOTHAN. . .Richard Earl (Dick) Forbes, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday morning, January 14, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 81.


 


            Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 20, 2012, in the Highland Park United Methodist Church with Reverend David Willis officiating and a eulogy to be given by a close friend, Evelyn Crawley. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P. M. Friday in the church sanctuary.



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1619 South Park Avenue, Dothan, AL. 36301 or to the American Diabetes Assn., P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.



            Mr. Forbes was born and reared in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, son of the late Fred William Forbes, Sr. and Cora Hilton Forbes. He attended Troy University. Mr. Forbes formerly lived in Melbourne Beach, FL, Dothan, Clinton, IL and Ft. Walton Beach, FL before returning to Dothan in 2000. He was retired from Ft. Walton Beach Metric Systems, Inc. as an auditor. In earlier years, Mr. Forbes was employed by the National Aeronautics Space Administration as a quality control manager. He and his wife also owned and operated Forbes Country Crafts in Clinton, Illinois. Mr. Forbes was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred W. Forbes, Jr. and Farnum Forbes.



            Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Rizer Forbes, Dothan; three daughters, Ana McTigue and husband, Donald, The Villages, FL; Penny Mobley and husband, Charlie, Newnan, GA and Cindy Lynn Thomas and husband, Les, DeFuniak Springs, FL; a granddaughter, Michelle Hammond, Milton, FL and a great-granddaughter, Caitlin N. Hammond, Milton, FL; a special niece, Debra Williams and husband, Herman.
