Robert Griffin Robison of Dothan passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at his residence.


Born in Athens, Georgia to the late Jack G. and Carolyn Elder Robison on December 11, 1941, he was predeceased by a brother, John Robison, Ph.D., head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts and by a son Robert Griffin Robison, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Relda Kelly Robison and daughter by a previous marriage, Carolyn Leigh Payne and granddaughter, Anna Caroline Payne of Olive Branch, Mississippi.


He was known simply as “R. G.” He was raised in Lawrenceville, GA and attended high school at Marist in Atlanta and was 1959 graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN. He also graduated from the University of Georgia in 1964 and Cumberland School of Law in 1967. R.G. practiced law in Birmingham, AL for 14 years before moving to the Wiregrass and opening and maintaining an office in Newton, Dale Co., AL until his death.


R.G. was employed in television production during his years at the University of Georgia while attending school. He was a mason, a member of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, Sons of the American Revolution, Exchange Club, and had served as area vice president of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.


R.G. was an avid reader and boater and enjoyed cruising many rivers in Alabama and Florida with his long time first mate, Relda.


He is also survived by his nephews, John E. Robison of Massachusetts, and Augusten Burroughs of New York City, nephews and best buddies, David and John Pitchford of Headland and Tumbleton, AL. Special caregivers were Annette Baker and Pat Powers.


His body will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, July 28 at 4:00 p.m. All old friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL, 36303, or the Wiregrass Food Bank, 382 Twitchell Road, Dothan, Alabama 36303.
