ROGER DALE HELMS
OZARK, AL… Roger Dale Helms, a resident of Ozark, Alabama, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at his home. He was 80.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Ozark Baptist Homebound Meal Ministry, 282 S. Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
Mr. Helms was born in the Bethany Community near New Brockton, Alabama, to the late Cammell Lee Helms and Menvie Knight Helms. He was retired from Montgomery Ward. After retirement he worked with Jim-Skinner Honda in Dothan, Alabama. Roger was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. He was a 1962 graduate of New Brockton High School and a 1965 graduate of Troy State University.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Smith Helms; his sisters, Miriam Hughes and Ozella Jacobs; his brother, Quinton Helms; and his brothers-in-law, Wadeus Hughes and Billy Jacobs.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his daughters, Shannon Schmidt (Tim), Allison Houston (Chuck), and Natalie Wallace (Tim); his sisters-in-law, Myrt Helms, Ann Thompson (Wayne), Betty Perry, and Martha Vaughn (James); and his grandchildren, Grayson Dill, Carson Dill, Emma Houston, Ella Houston, and Sara Payton Schmidt.
The family wants to extend a special thanks to Sherri Wiggins for her love, compassion, and friendship, shown to Mr. Helms through this time.
