DOTHAN, AL…….Rosa Margaret Brooks Lee, a resident of Columbus, Georgia, formerly of Dothan, died Monday morning, December 12, 2011, in Magnolia Manor of Columbus. She was 93.


           


Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2011,  in the First United Methodist Church of Dothan with the Bishop Benjamin Michael Watson,  The Reverend Doctor Robert Lawson Bryan and Dr. James B. Sanders, III officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church parlor.


 


A private family graveside service will be held in Memory Hill Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


 


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rosa Brooks Lee and Alto Velo Lee, III Scholarship, The University of Alabama National Alumni Association, P.O. Box 861928, Tuscaloosa, AL 35486 or the First United Methodist Church Patio Fund, 1380 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301 or the St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1104 2nd Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901-2408.


 


Mrs. Lee was born and reared in Camilla, Georgia, daughter of the late Jordan Edwin Brooks and Sara Margaret Smith Brooks. She was a graduate of Mitchell County High School and was named Miss Mitchell County. Mrs. Lee received a Bachelor of Arts with a Teacher’s Certificate from The University of Alabama with a major in French. She taught school in Cairo, Georgia before her marriage to Alto Velo Lee, III. Mrs. Lee lived all her adult life in Dothan before moving to Columbus in 2003.


 


Mrs. Lee was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan and the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Houston/Henry Counties Chapter of The University of Alabama National Alumni Association, Sorosis Club, Dothan Country Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, The Colonial Dames of America and was a charter member of the Dothan Service League.


 


Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Alto Velo Lee, III, two sisters, Ruth Brooks MacQueen, Sara Brooks Moore McDonald, three brothers, Jordan Edwin Brooks, Jr., Woodrow Wilson Brooks and James Brooks.


 


Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth (Libba) Lee Neal and husband, Heidt, Columbus, GA; Vela Margaret Lee Watson and husband, Mike, Atlanta, GA; a son, William (Bill) Lovard  Lee, III and wife, Lucy (Sis), Dothan; a sister, Grace (Punky) Brooks Eastwood and husband, Pete, Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren, Lee Rosalyn Neal Bush & husband, Lane; Margaret (Margie) Helen Neal Norman and husband, Steve; William (Will) Lovard Lee, IV and wife, Cora; Lawrence Stuart Lee and wife, Chera; Lucy Lee Gilmore and husband, Gene; Benjamin (Ben) Lee Watson and wife, Angela; Elizabeth Margaret Watson Riddle and husband, Zac; fifteen great-grandchildren, Sarah Margaret Bush, Kay Elizabeth Bush, Taylor Lane Bush, Steven (Tripp) Rae Norman, III, Heidt Neal Norman, Elizabeth Patricia Norman, William Lovard Lee, V, Cora LaDelle Lee, Sara Wellons Lee, Mary Lawrence Lee, Edgar Douglas Lee, Benjamin Alexander (Alex) Watson, Andrew Wyatt Watson, Camilla Joy Riddle and William Watson Riddle.
