Roy Gene Hilton passed away on Friday, February 18, at Elba Nursing and Rehab Center.  He was 86.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with the Reverend Jim Powell officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Roy was born in Praco, Alabama on June 15, 1935, to Charles and Blanche (Alexander) Hilton. He was a 1953 graduate of West Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Alabama. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Montevallo in 1960 and his master’s degree from the University of Alabama in 1961. Roy served in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years, retiring at the rank of major. He served both during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star for valor.   

After his retirement, he and his family settled in Coffee County, where he filled his retirement years with many interests and passions, including caning chairs, growing fruit trees, collecting antiques, and raising chickens, ducks, and llamas.  He and Elsie were regular vendors at the Enterprise Farmers Market for many years. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elsie (Snellgrove) Hilton, and their children Gina (Dan) Warner, and Johnathan (Vilma) Hilton.  He leaves behind two grandchildren, Kieran Warner and Alex Hilton.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Charles, Maurice and Joe Neal, and his sister, Juanita.
