DOTHAN, AL……Ruby Lee Gilley Rathel, a resident of Westside Terrace, formerly of Headland, died early Thursday morning, December 29, 2011. She was 98.


           


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 31, 2011, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Winford O. Gulledge and Reverend Bryan Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.


           


Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, Alabama 36303.


           


Mrs. Rathel was born and reared in Dothan, Alabama, daughter of the late Jesse James Gilley and Ilar Estelle Ruggs Gilley. She had lived in Headland since 1964 before moving to Westside Terrace. Mrs. Rathel was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Headland. She was a Christian lady and also a devoted, loving and caring homemaker to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Rathel, a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby Jewell Ethridge and Noel Ethridge, a sister, Mary Ilar Gilley and also four brothers, Burnie Gilley, Doty Gilley, Oliver Gilley and Everett James Gilley.


           


Surviving relatives include three daughters, Elaine Alsobrook and husband, Glen Alsobrook, Atlanta, GA; Mary Ann Knosp and husband, Tom Knosp, Cincinnati, OH; Myra Davis and husband, Rick Davis, Headland; a son, Randall Rathel and wife, Ramona Rathel, Dothan; twelve grandchildren, Glen A. Alsobrook, Joel Alsobrook, Dede Alsobrook, Scott Knosp, Johnathan Knosp, Angie Blackwell, Karen Bostick, Dan Bostick, Casey Hopkins, Christie Williamson, Noel Ethridge and Neil Ethridge; fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.


           


Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons.
