Ruth Wade died peacefully at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle in Dothan, April 9, 2019.

Born Ruth Loraine in Enterprise to the late Henry and Sara Francis (Reid) Stephenson on September 21, 1916. One of eight predeceased siblings she was expected to die several times while very young, but instead went on to live an exciting and rewarding life of 102 years!

Ruth worked at the bank in Slocomb until she married Simeon Monroe Wade of Kinsey who predeceased her in 1971. They lived in New Orleans and then Houston. She raised their four children pretty much by herself as Monroe’s job required a lot of travel.

Her first son Simeon got a Ph.D. from Harvard and lived in California until his death in 2017. Wyatt graduated from University of Texas and became President of Davis Publications in Worcester, Massachusetts where he still lives. David got his J.D. at Harvard Law School and practiced law in New York, Los Angeles and now Eugene, Oregon. Daughter, Susan Wade, went to Houston Community College then moved to Dothan with Ruth in 1976 where they joined First Baptist Church. Susan took loving care of Ruth in her last years. Ruth was extremely proud of all her children, her two grandchildren, Alison Wade and Julian Wade, and her great grandchild, Jet Wade.

A funeral will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Mother’s Day May 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Ruth was always sassy and engaged even at 102 years old.
