Sergeant First Class (SFC) (Ret) Robert “Bob” Sanders transitioned to his eternal glory, Monday, July 9, 2018. He was 82. 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise.  Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  Visitation will be Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of service

Robert was born August 11, 1935 in Brownsville, TN to the late Odell Sanders and Lettie Mae Wills.  He accepted Christ at an early age; most recently attending First United Methodist Church, Daleville, AL. 

He leaves to his cherished memory a loving wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn G. Sanders of 52 years; children:  Keith (Eve) Sanders of Alpharetta, GA, Kimberly Sanders of Alpharetta, GA, Angela (Thomas) Sherrell of Nashville, TN, Cheryl McCory of Jackson, TN and Kenneth Maclin of Memphis, TN.  Eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; siblings:  O.C. Sanders (deceased), Barbara Sanders of Jackson, TN, Odell Sanders (deceased), Eddie Sue Fouse of Brownsville, TN, Ronald Sanders (deceased), Rhonda Houston of Manassas, VA, Leon Sanders (deceased), Don Sanders of Washington, D.C., Ray Sanders of Ripley, TN, Marcia Patterson of Nashville, TN and Douglas Sanders of Richmond, VA. 

He received his education from George Washington Carver High School.  After high school he served in the military as a paratrooper for three years; then attended Lane College for two years before returning to the military.  He served a total of 24 years, which included duties in Korea, Germany and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War.  He received numerous medals for accomplished service and acts of valor.  He retired from active duty, Fort Eustis, VA in 1976.  After retiring from the military, he worked for the Department of Defense and retired as a training instructor.

Affectionately known as Tennessee Red, he loved driving and repairing automobiles, blues music and socializing with friends.  He was quick to lend a hand to a person in need and will always be known for his quick wit and sense of humor.  He leaves a host of family, friends, and loved ones and will be dearly missed.
