SFC Joseph Keith Young (United States Army, Retired) of Ariton, died Thursday, October 31, 2019, at this home. He was eighty-six years old.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 4, 2019, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Army Chaplain COL Charles E. Hamlin officiating.  Interment will follow with Full Military Honors in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Monday morning at the funeral home in Ozark from 9:30 A.M. until service time.


SFC Young was born August 27, 1933 in Stoutland, Missouri (Camden County) to the late Joseph Isaac Young and Bertha Myrtle Oliver Young.  He served in the United States Army for twenty years until his retirement in December 1973, 101st Airborne, with tours in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and Austria. He moved to Alabama from Missouri in the 1980’s.   Mr. Young owned and operated Young’s Cattle Company, and previously Young’s Feed and Seed and Young’s Mini Mart.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Ray Young, Neva South, Robert Young, Wilma Clark, Georgia Smith, Willard Young, and Elma Cleo Young.


Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Janice Young of Ariton; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Brenda Young of Wicksburg; two grandsons, Jared Young (Christina Nolin) of Wicksburg, Hunter Young (Christie) of Loxley; one great grandson, Joseph Campbell Young; and one great grandchild on the way; two sisters, Virginia Courison of Missouri and Sharon Boyer of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Junior Young (Mary) and Jerry Young of Missouri. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
