On Thursday, March 11th, 2021, Sharon L. Patterson, loving wife, mother of two children, passed away of Cancer at the age of 75, while in her home under the care of Hospice. At her request there will be no service.  

Sharon was born on September 8^th, 1945 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to the late John and Mary Hoffman.  As kids, she would often tell us stories of growing up in Lock Haven.  One story in particular, was of the “bear” that hung on the wall in her home that her mother had shot.  She would always tell us how embarrassed she was of that thing when her friends would come over to the house.  After graduating from Lock Haven Senior High in 1963, Sharon went to work at Woolworth where she met her future husband, Russell.  After moving around, they settled in Dothan, Alabama.  She started working at Winn-Dixie from 1969 until her retirement in 2003.  During this time I can’t say she enjoyed being outdoors because she hated the heat, but she did love being with her family.  We spent many weekends at White Oak and even more time boating and skiing up and down the Chattahoochee River with our friends.  One of her favorite memories was when a friend of mine thought he was a pretty good swimmer; then one of my sister’s friends showed him up by swimming circles around him that day, literally.  Over the years, she taught us that you never take the boat out without a cooler loaded with food.  You never know how long you’ll be out.  Always the hostess when you walked in the front door, if you left hungry or thirsty (or without a block of cheese) that was on you because she never offered food or beverages less than a dozen times.  And she loved telling stories to embarrass us kids.  All I can say is Bugs Bunny was a terrible influence, you’ll understand that if you’ve ever heard the plunger story.  After retiring, if she wasn’t spending time with her grandkids she was at Lake Seminole where I’m sure she will also be missed.  By the way Jim, it is now your responsibility to keep Dad out of trouble when he is over there.  

She is survived by her husband Russell and HIS cat Cecilia, children John (Angela) and Jill (Don) Hughes, sister Jane (Dennis) Marasco, grandchildren Heather and Nathan Hughes, and many nieces and nephews.

 Before passing, she requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society.
