Svetlana Basarab, a resident of Marianna, FL, crossed her finish line on Monday, January 13, 2020 and stepped into eternity after five years of fighting a brave and difficult battle against cancer. She was 46 years old.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home with Teaching Elder Gabriel Rutledge officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Svetlana was born November 27, 1973 to Ivan and Vera Belousov in Maykop, Russia. She lived her early life in Russia until September 20, 1990 when she came to the United States and settled first in Pennsylvania and then later in Florida. Svetlana was a loving and caring person, wife, mom, daughter, sister, and aunt who would set aside her own interests to care for others. Even in the times of suffering she was a great inspiration for many, setting an example of complete trust in God, whom she loved deeply. Many considered her as their spiritual mom, mentor or sister in the Lord, someone they could trust and open up their hearts to. In her last year, beginning January 2019, she joined her husband in his prison ministry. Despite her cancer spreading and making her very weak, she went out and ministered with Alexei in five of Florida’s correctional institutions, visiting some multiple times. Her message, coming from the weak body, but strong spirit, was full of God's power and love, transforming lives of many men, helping them to find forgiveness and peace with God and other people. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Svetlana was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Belousov and one of her sisters, Vera.

She is survived by her loving husband, Alexei Basarab; her children, Benjamin and Rebekah Basarab; her mother, Vera Belousov; her brothers, Peter, Nikolay, Ivan, Pavel, and Sergey; her sisters, Nadia, Luba, Lena, and Galya; and a host of extended family and friends.
