Sylvia Gibbs Skinner passed away February 10, 2024 at the age of 90. She was surrounded by her family.  She was a faithful follower of Christ Our Lord.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Westgate Church of Christ (617 Westgate Parkway) Dothan, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m., until time of the services.  Interment will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery (1048 White Avenue) in Graceville, Florida. Serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Girton, Tom Kirk, Alex Murphree, Rick Boger, Rene Nix and Brandy Nix. Honorary pallbearers will be the Birthday Girls Club. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be given to a children’s ministry of one’s choice. Keahey-Williams Funeral Home (5283 Brown Street, Graceville, Florida phone 850-263-5116) is entrusted with the arrangements.
Although it was said she was born under an Azalea Bush to become a true southern lady, she was actually born in Orrville, Alabama to Jasper Wade Gibbs and Elma Foxhall Gibbs. Sylvia was a true southern lady; she always had a kind word for everybody. She enjoyed a good joke! She loved beating everyone at Hand and Foot Canasta, Zilch, and although she was never caught the family believed she had divine help! The family draws comfort in knowing that she is made new in her heavenly home.
She was the widow of Curtis S. Skinner, the love of her life; she was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jimmie Gibbs (Alice), brother, Grady Gibbs and a nephew, Jimmie Gibbs, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory, son, Jack Stringfellow (Francis) and daughter, Teresa Girton (Steve), many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was also blessed to have a host of many other children, grandchildren and great grandchildren “by love”, who were all a treasure to her. She also had many special nieces and cousins. She will especially be missed by her good friend, Lois Taylor and her backyard neighbors, Dot Register and Paula K.
