TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA. . .Thomas Daniel Murphy, a resident of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Dothan, died early Tuesday morning in Harbor Chase of Tallahassee. He was 85.

     In consideration of community health and public safety due to the COVID-19 Virus, a graveside service for Mr. Murphy and his son, Chris, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 8, 2020, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, between Headland & Columbia, with Reverend Hosea Parker officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Plains Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Jerry Knowles, 5373 E. County Road 22, Headland, AL 36345.

     Mr. Murphy was born and raised in the Pleasant Plains Community of Houston County, Alabama, son of the late Christopher Columbus Murphy and Lucy Gamble Murphy. He was a 1953 graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia and attended Riley Business College. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force from 1955 until 1959. Mr. Murphy lived in Tallahassee from 1959 until 1997 when he moved to Dothan. He returned to Tallahassee in 2018. Mr. Murphy attended the Bethel Baptist Church.  He retired from GMAC as a Dealer Relations Supervisor after thirty years employment. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his late wife, LaNelle Folkes Murphy, a son, James Christopher Murphy who died May 3, 2020,  and two brothers, James A. Murphy, who died as a Prisoner of War in World War II and Harold S. “Boots” Murphy, and a step-son, Todd Tooke.

     Surviving relatives include his wife, Emily Duke Tooke Murphy; a daughter, Carol Murphy, Tallahassee;  a son, Daniel Murphy (Kara), Tallahassee; a special daughter-in-law, Paula Lindenmuth, Taylor, AL; a step-daughter, Laura Tooke Taylor (Ronnie), Dothan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, KeNette Folkes Carroll (David), and Wayne Folkes (Cindy), all of Dothan; grandchildren, Reba Chancey (Michael), Casy Schrier (T.J.), Joshua Lindenmuth, Shelby Graganella (Nicholas), Logan Murphy, John-Thomas Montague, Jacob Montague, Ryan Montague, Amanda Montague, Joshua Daniel Murphy and Madilyn Murphy.
