Thomas Dean Greggs passed away in his sleep on October 25, 2018. He was 30 years old and had suffered with severe epilepsy most of his short life. He was born September 27, 1988 in Mobile, AL and moved with his parents and older brother to Chattanooga, TN in 1989, where two younger brothers were born, and he lived there until 2003 before moving to Dothan. When he was born he had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck perhaps portending his coming very challenging life.

Dean, as he was known, also battled mental illness from the age of 21 up until the end, and it exacerbated his physical health problems. Despite the "stacked deck" he was dealt in life he tried to enjoy it as much as he was able and loved outdoor activities and playing games, music and movies and getting together with friends and family. One of his favorite things to do in his late childhood and his early teens was going to epilepsy camp every summer at Camp Lakewood near Chattanooga where he had a lot of fun with others in similar situations. He was an astounding poker player with incredible luck and instinct and once wiped out a large table of much more experienced players in an informal game of Texas Hold 'Em amazing everyone present. He had a winning personality, a good sense of humor and high ambitions for himself but lacked the tools necessary to make much of it a lasting reality. And now the tragedy is complete.

Survivors include his parents, Michael and Martha Greggs; grandmother, Maria Greggs; brothers, Richard Pierce Greggs, Michael Jonathon Greggs, and Ryan Greggs; aunt, Kristy Hampton; uncle, Steven Greggs.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lee officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.

Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home, (334) 983-6604, is in charge of arrangements. Please call us or visit www.SunsetMemorialPark.com for more information.
