Thomas Derrell Powell, 71, of Union Springs, Alabama passed away at his home on August 21, 2012 after a short but hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family whom he adored.
He was born February 6, 1941 in Union Springs, Alabama the son of Bertice Tew Powell and Fred T. Powell. His parents, a brother, Gene Powell and a son, Thomas Paul Powell preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Glovine LaMargaret Moorer, of 48 years.
He is also survived by one son, Rodney (Rebecca) Powell, Troy, Alabama and three daughters; Gwen (John) Frattick, Danville, Illinois; Pam (Ronnie) Crawley, Troy, Alabama; Laura Powell, Union Springs, Alabama. 11 grandchildren: Josh Powell, Justin (Melissa) Culver, Amber (Matthew) Jordan, David Powell, Steven (Meri-Melissa) Phelps, Patrick Phelps, Ethan Frattick, Katherine Frattick, Johnny (Amber) Crawley, Tommy (Lauren) Crawley, Jeff (Melita) Crawley. 6 great-grandchildren: Eli, Hunter, Hannah, George, Gavin, and Kylin.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 12-2pm at Eastside Baptist Church, Union Springs, Alabama. A celebration of life service will follow visitation at 2:30pm. Pastor Curtis Rich will officiate. Cremation services provided by Glover Funeral Home, Dothan, Alabama. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alacare Hospice Services.
