Tommy W. Thornell, a resident of Dothan, was called home by his Lord to be with his loving wife, Lillian on Sunday, April 2, 2023. He was 89.


Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2023, at Selma Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Scott Cox officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, at Glover Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Selma Baptist Church, “Cemetery Fund”, 3255 South Park Ave., Dothan, AL 36301.


Tommy was born January 30, 1934, in Cowarts, Alabama to the late John Calvin (Dick) and Martha Aline Crawford Thornell. He was a graduate of Ashford High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1956-1957 before being honorably discharged. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Lillian Williamson and they were married for 51 years until her death. Tommy was employed with Speigner Concrete Block Company for 8 years before starting Tommy Thornell Construction Company. He enjoyed history and loved to travel. Tommy was an active member of Selma Baptist Church where he served as a deacon on several committees.


He was preceded in death by his parents, John Calvin (Dick) and Aline Crawford Thornell; his wife, Lillian Williamson Thornell; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Alma Trawick Williamson; brothers-in-law, Albert Fox, Lawrence Williamson, and Byron Williamson (Linda); a nephew, Morris Williamson.


Tommy is survived by his daughter, Sheree Braswell (Bobby) of Cowarts; his son, Phillip Thornell (Donna) of Cowarts; two sisters, Noel Deese (Lamar) of Cowarts, and Mary Sue Arnold Fox of San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law, David Williamson (Joyce) of Dothan; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Andy Ming, Drew Ming, Bruce Williamson, Allen Aplin, Andrew Head, Kerry Williamson, Kevin Williamson and Jesse Taylor.
