Vernell Trawick of Dothan, a former resident of Cottonwood, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at home with family by her side. She was 85 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church (Cottonwood) with Reverend Karl Hudson and Reverend Tommy White officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to, the April Kirkland Scholarship Fund, 103 Lindsey Lane, Dothan, AL, 36305.

Nell was born October 30, 1937, in Cottonwood. She worked at Dothan Hosiery Mill and retired from Globe Motors after 31 years. After retirement, Nell sat with the elderly. She was a member of Toastmasters for many years and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene (Pete) Trawick; her parents, George Haisten and Ivy Skinner Rhodes; three sisters, Hazel Rhodes, Vivian Rhodes, and LaNell Rhodes; two brothers, James Edgar Rhodes, and Ralph Rhodes; two grandchildren, Jason Kirkland, and April Kirkland; a son-in-law, Grady Adams.

She is survived by, two daughters, Patsy Ryan (Chris), and Gail Adams; a son, Donald Trawick (Caryl); six grandchildren, Amanda Monday, Heather Hoffman, Austin Ryan, Corey Trawick, Nicole Ryan and Morris Adams; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Lillian Rhodes; a brother, Frazier Rhodes (Gail); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Terry Wells, Austin Ryan, Logan Kirkland, Jeff Floyd Steve Edwards, and Bob Smith. Danny Lewis will serve as honorary pallbearer.
