            Walter Dan “W.D.” Wilbourn of Chancellor, AL went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 10, 2012.  He was 79.


            Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday, June 13 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Bruce and Rev. John Willis officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 until 8 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, 4015 Hwy. 27, Enterprise, AL 36330.


            Mr. Wilbourn was born November 9, 1932 in Houston County to the late W.F. “Jack” Wilbourn and the late Mrs. Mary Jerkins Wilbourn.  He lived there until 1993, when he moved to Chancellor upon his retirement from Fort Rucker after working 30 years as an aircraft mechanic.


            After committing his life to Jesus Christ at an early age, he served faithfully at his home church of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dothan until his relocation to Chancellor where he continued his service at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.  Throughout the years, he demonstrated a servant’s heart by serving as deacon, Sunday School director, teacher and other positions as needed.


            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Fred and Willie Pearl Strickland and grandson, Michael Willis.


            Mr. Wilbourn is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Strickland Wilbourn, Chancellor; son, Dan Wilbourn, Hoover, AL; daughter, Lynn Wilbourn Willis (John), Columbiana, AL; granddaughter, Marybeth Willis, Hoover, AL.  His extended family included a sister-in-law, Joyce Reynolds (Jerrel), Coffee Springs, AL, brother-in-law, Jimmy Strickland (Linda), Chancellor, three nephews, a niece and nine great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
