Walter Franklin Emmanuel, Sr., a resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Flowers Hospital. He was 88.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette, Alabama. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Stockton Memorial Cemetery in Stockton, Alabama with Rev. J. D. Lambert officiating and Norris Funeral Home directing.

Walter was born January 30, 1935 in Stockton, Alabama to Jessie Byrd and Julia Camilla Catrett Emmanuel. He grew up in Stockton and was a 1954 graduate of Baldwin County High. He then entered the U.S. Army where he served for over 20 years prior to his retirement.

He later attended Wallace College HVAC and sheet metal school. Walter was employed as a technician and sheet metal roofing specialist with ESMAC in Enterprise for 33 years prior to his retirement. He was of the Methodist faith.

He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Aurelia Emmanuel, his second wife, Frances Emmanuel, a brother, Robert Emmanuel and four sisters, Thelma Gibson, Mary Pierce, Ruby Fail and Alberta Psareas.

He is survived by a daughter, Diana Smith (Rozeallan); three sons, Walter Emmanuel, Jr., Robert Emmanuel (Joanna), and John Emmanuel (Lynn;  a stepson, David Carden (Katie); 12 grandchildren, Julia Smith, Jessica Holbert, Rozeallan Smith II “Allan”, Cynthia Emmanuel, Andrea Forehand, Amanda Price, Robert Emmanuel, Jr., Christina Hall, Matthew Emmanuel, Ryan Emmanuel, Kelly Emmanuel and Victor Emmanuel; 13 great-great grandchildren, Jonathan, Hailey, Tage, Trinity, Aria and several other ones; a step grandchild, Bronwen Redding (Brian); two step great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Dalton; a sister, Shirley Long; a special niece, Jean Shiver (Harry); several other family members.
