Foy Wendell Barnes, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at his residence after a prolonged fight with cancer. His family was close by his side. He was 63 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Johnson and Bimbo Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Union Hill Baptist Church, Cottonwood, AL.


Wendell was born August 27, 1955 in Columbus, GA. He lived in the Cottonwood community for 42 years and served as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver. He attended Union Hill Baptist Church. Wendell worked as a tug boat master, pipeline operator, and heavy equipment operator up until his fight with cancer.


Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Joanne Barnes; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Chad Wells and Ashley and Chad Patterson; granddaughter, Alison Patterson; grandsons, Preston Wells, Carson Wells, Brady Wells, Waylon Patterson and Cody Patterson; his father, Ray Barnes; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Judy Barnes of Tallahassee, FL.
