William Floyd Raines, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, at the age of 79 in Dothan, Alabama. He was a mighty Sailor who fought his illnesses with peace, on those rough and windy seas, and he is now laid to rest on that peaceful shore. And all of life’s trials and troubles he will face no more. Born on October 22, 1944, in Semmes, Alabama, Bill was a man of great skill and even greater heart.

William Raines received Salvation on February 2, 2024, his daughter, April Raines led him to the Lord that night before the passing of the next day, February 3, 2024, at the hour of 5 P.M.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Memory Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Bill proudly served his country in the Navy and later retired as a Boiler Maker, a testament to his hardworking and dedicated nature. His hands were rarely still, as he was always involved in a project or lending his skills to those in need. Bill’s love for the outdoors was evident through his passion for camping, fishing, and using his Ham radio, activities that brought him immense joy and peace.

He was a thoughtful and loving individual, whose presence brought comfort and happiness to those around him. Bill’s ability to fix anything that was broken earned him the admiration of many and the loving title of being incredibly handy.

Though preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Loisteen Raines; his wives, Dorothy Ann Raines, Margaret Ann Raines, and Judy Raines; his son, Kevin Rafferty; and his grandson, James Carl Brown, Bill’s legacy continues through his cherished family.

He is survived by his daughters, April Raines, Pam Watford (Josh), and Missy Strength (Terry); sons, Eddie Brown (Deborah) and Scott Rafferty (Sandra); sisters, Betty Jean Watson and Janie Perkins; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Bill Raines will be remembered as a man who lived his life with purpose and love, leaving behind a trail of beautiful memories and a family that adored him. His spirit will live on in the lives he touched and the natural world he so loved to explore. Now he’s at home with Jesus, his Savior.
